Generational Mountains: How Our Mountain Experiences Are Changing

May 16 - 6:00 PM Open Baladin (Open map)

We often think of the mountains as something immutable. Yet, over time, they change, and profoundly alter the way we experience them.

This talk, recorded live as an episode of the podcast «Preferisco Ghisarmi» by Brocchi Sui Blocchi, the largest climbing community in Italy, starts right here: from the idea that each generation builds its own relationship with the mountains, responding to the historical context in which it lives.

From post-war mountaineering, tied to the need for reconstruction and community, to the ruptures of the 1970s, up to the increasingly widespread and accessible contemporary outdoor lifestyle, we will ask ourselves what our way of experiencing the mountains says about us today.

Together with Irene Borgna and Costanza Luconi of the Maritime Alps Protected Areas, participating in the Interreg VI-A France-Italy ALCOTRA program, project no. 20140 'BiodivTourAlps', and mountain guide Michele Perotti, the Brocchi sui Blocchi will explore the theme of the limits, consequences and possibilities of being in the mountains as an opportunity to rethink our presence in these territories: not just spaces to cross, but ecosystems to be part of.

Through experience, storytelling, and public engagement, the mountains become a place of learning, capable of teaching us limits, listening, and responsibility, both on and off the trails and cliffs.
