What we talk about when we talk about stories. A practical, intense, and mountain-focused writing workshop led by Davide Longo

Every day we handle stories, we quote them, we search for them, we recommend them, and some of them we become attached to for life. Yet when it comes to defining what they are, let alone actually producing one, things get difficult. As Flannery O'Connor said in a lecture for aspiring writers, "Most people know what a story is until they sit down to write one.". 

The aim of this short but intense workshop is to leave with a clearer understanding of what a story is and the steps needed to produce one. We'll do so with a special focus on mountains and valleys as a backdrop and setting. As we'll see, the affinities between the act of crafting a story and walking, especially uphill, are many and profound.

We will have about ten hours at our disposal during which, using examples from cinema, music, painting and, of course, books, we will address the fundamental issues (i.e., what makes a story a story) such as character development, structure, space, plot twists, etc. 

As in any artisanal workshop, exercises, corrections, writing, and rewriting are planned, both in groups and individually. This isn't a workshop for professionals, but a space open to all writing enthusiasts and readers who want to understand more about the mechanisms that make a story work.
