Everything you need to know about the Cuneo Montagna Festival

With the writing workshop “What We Talk About When We Talk About Stories,” which writer Davide Longo held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May at the Casa del Fiume in Cuneo – with 20 available places sold out – the countdown to the fourth edition of the Cuneo Montagna Festival, scheduled from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th May.

The event, organized by the Municipality of Cuneo, with thecontribution and patronage of the Cuneo Chamber of Commerce and the patronage of the Piedmont Region, Uncem Piemonte, and the Province of Cuneo, and in collaboration with many local partners, is the tip of the iceberg of the metropolitan reflection launched in 2022 by the city of Cuneo with the establishment of a dedicated department.

The program includes talks, conferences, screenings, concerts, exhibitions, and outdoor experiential activities, all under the common theme of "crossing borders,"an invitation to step out of your comfort zone and look at the highlands beyond prejudice and stereotypes. Among the initiatives that have enriched the program unveiled last April 18th at Open Baladin are the themed guided tours offered by the Cuneo Civic Museum on Saturday May 16th and Sunday May 17th, and those of the Casa Galimberti Museum on Sunday May 17th. On Friday May 15th, at 11:30 a.m., the square in front of the Cuneo branch of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) (via Porta Mondovì 5) will be named after the Italian Alpine Club in the presence of institutions and authorities. And again, the evolution of the event "Voices. Dialogues on Alpine Architecture," organized by the Art.ur association in collaboration with architects Dario Castellino and Alice Lusso, which, in its third edition, is open to the public for the first time, and the Alpine Village on Via Roma, with nearly 50 stands that on Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, May 17th from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm will allow visitors to learn about, listen to, and encounter the mountains.

The Cuneo Montagna Festival evenings at the Monviso Cinema will range from sports, with cross-country skiing legend Federico "Chicco" Pellegrino (Friday, May 15th) and Davide Rivero, a Cuneo trail runner who won the 2025 "Tor 130. Tot Dret" (Saturday, May 16th), to cinema, with a tribute to Nino Perino, a mountain guide, ski instructor, and historic rescuer who passed away last December, through images and words (Thursday, May 14th), and a preview ofFredo Valla dedicated to Hans Clemer (Sunday, May 17th). Furthermore, on Saturday, May 16th, the festival will debut stand-up comedy with Antonio Piazza and Emanuele Tumolo and a live podcast with the Brocchi sui Blocchi collective. Numerous conferences will be held, from "Montesplora: a mountain education project," organized by the University of Turin's degree program in Mountain Science and Technology with the support of Alpine Lions Cooperation, to the PITER ALPIMED+ Cross-Border Assembly Festival, to "Sentinels of Stone. Memory and Future of Cuneo's Alpine Fortifications," presented by the Cuneo FAI delegation in collaboration with the Artea Foundation, and "The Mountain Is Not Far Away. Transcending Mobility Models to Bring Territories and Services Together," promoted by the Cuneo City Council's Metromontagna Department.

Thanks to the synergy with the Occit'amo festival, Piazza Virginio will once again be the setting for music and dance, including from beyond the Alps. Two exhibitionswill be held: one in the corridor in front of the Hall of Honor of the Cuneo City Hall, celebrating the first thirty years of the Compagnia del Buon Cammino, and "On the Edge of Oblivion. The Forts of the Maritime Alps," on display under the porticoes of Via Roma until July 5th.
